How to plan a cleaning visit when you have pets at home

Coordinate access, supplies and priority areas to prepare the visit around your household routine.

Letting a provider know you have pets helps organize a cleaning visit. Hair, frequently used textiles and doors opened for equipment are details to discuss before the appointment.

Asking for a “pet-friendly” service is not enough by itself. Request specific information about products, directions and how the visit will be organized. A marketing label alone does not explain how the work will happen in your home.

Describe the household routine

Explain how many animals live there, which spaces they use and whether they will remain at home. Share information relevant to the work and identify priority areas such as resting places, entrances and particular textiles.

Ask whether removing hair from sofas, carpets or beds is included. Cleaning floors and treating upholstery are different tasks and may require different equipment, time and quotes.

Prepare a separate area

Arrange a suitable space to keep pets away from products, cables and equipment during work. Agree who is responsible for them and how room changes are handled. Cleaning staff should not be expected to care for animals without a specific agreement.

  • Remove toys and bowls from the areas to be cleaned.
  • Do not leave food exposed on work surfaces.
  • Identify doors that must stay closed.
  • Confirm property access and who opens the door.

In a condo, also review building rules and the route from parking. Coordinating entry can reduce the time an exterior door stays open.

Ask about products and materials

Share floor and textile care instructions. Ask which products will be used, how they are applied and when each area can be used again according to its labels. For a specific concern about your pet, consult its veterinarian and discuss it with the provider before the visit.

Do not assume a mild scent, the word “natural” or a lack of odor proves compatibility with every animal or material.

Distinguish upkeep from specific problems

Describe odors, stains and known incidents as precisely as possible. Ask whether the provider can assess them and what limitations apply. Ordinary household cleaning cannot resolve every problem or guarantee the removal of every mark or odor.

Review the scope afterward

Check the agreed areas and keep any use or drying instructions. Adjust priorities for future visits based on the home’s condition. A clear scope supports accurate quotes and smoother coordination.

Keep preparing for your visit
